The Office of Youth Affairs is a central co-ordination agency within the Department of the Chief Minister. The office provides a whole-of-government approach to policy priorities for young people aged 12 to 24 years and develops effective communication links between young people, Government and the wider community.
The office supports initiatives that improve young Territorians’ personal wellbeing, promotes their positive achievements and assists them to reach their goals. In addition, the office supports events and activities that provide positive recreational and developmental opportunities for young Territorians.
Across Australia, youth and youth sector conferences are held on a regular basis and provide an opportunity to raise issues and concerns, network and highlight examples of best practice.
The inaugural Youth NT conference held on 1-2 October 2012 aimed to coordinate an event that was relevant, Territory focused, engaging, fun and discussed ideas that reflect current issues facing both young people and the youth sector.
It presented a unique opportunity to connect young people with the youth sector to gain valuable insight into program planning, policies, allow for development opportunities and receive feedback.
